The conservatives today who yell the loudest would in any political science beginning course be pushed right out of the conservative section into the reactionary area. I think the 9/11 hopla stalled the swing of the pendulum back to its left, that fact is creating distortions in our political discourse. The reactionaries from their perch out on the right see our current president as far left but at best he might be a smiggen left of center.

In my political science classes, a conservative was someone who was happy with things as they are now, a liberal was someone who thought we could tinker with the system and do better. A radical was someone who wanted to start over and a reactionary was someone who wanted to go back to the way it was in the past. Simplistic? Yes. . but that is the template that I was taught in school.

The reactionaries and radicals always make the most noise in relation to their numbers. In my humble opinion, over time the reactionaries will kill as many as the radicales. It is the nature of the extreme to be blind to the vast center that most of us occupy . Both sides of the extreme see us in the center as idiots for not seeing the true light and that is what makes them so dangerous. normhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04651902762232427335noreply@blogger.com
