It is great to know that everything went well and that you had a nice time. Now that you are a posada veteran I imagine that your posada next year will be utterly fantastic. I have several times tried to script and direct one but with posadas you just have to make sure that all the ingredients are at hand and then let them unfold. Each one is a unique experience and depends upon which and how many viejitas are present and if the children can be brought under some semblance of control :)Bob Mrotekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15016079751197723749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985623786044384912.post-43665313433070068442009-12-21T09:18:28.835-06:002009-12-21T09:18:28.835-06:00Post Posada Report:

Our ponche was not bad at all, and Doña Cuevas built and maintained a nice fogata.

The only slightly awkward moment was when we were asked if the peregrinos could leave the statues of the virgen and San José at our house. We agreed, but found out a few moments later that they would come to pick them up today at 4:30 p.m. But we wouldn't be home. So they found another house for them.

Our Mexican-American neighbors across the street, just arrived the day before, generously provided two beautiful piñatas. The kids had a great time swinging the stick at it, and then came the shower of goodies when it broke. We just hope that they were able to distinguish the golosinas (goodies, delights) from the horse apples and cow patties in the street.

There were a few small but nice fireworks and I fired a cool Roman Candle, here called "una araña" (spider).

The program concluded by 9:30 p.m. We were reasonably cleaned up and in bed by 10:00

Saludos,
Don CuevasDon Cuevashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13512081335891808593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985623786044384912.post-13542870549417124042009-12-20T02:38:58.489-06:002009-12-20T02:38:58.489-06:00Bob, thanks for the excellent information, which f...Bob, thanks for the excellent information, which fills in some of the great gaps in our knowledge about customs of la Navidad in México.

We are hosting a posada tonight, and we hope that everyone has a good time.

Saludos,
Don CuevasDon Cuevashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13512081335891808593noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7985623786044384912.post-13649579403283782442009-12-20T00:01:07.835-06:002009-12-20T00:01:07.835-06:00Bob, thank you for writing such a clear descriptio...Bob, thank you for writing such a clear description of our Mexican Christmas traditions. Brings back wonderful memories of the Christmas' spent in Sonora, Chihuahuah and now Jalisco. Plus, you given me some wonderful information that I can't wait to share with the in-laws.

There is another version to the piñata song that is very popular, especially at schools with lots of kids waiting for their turn to hit the piñata:

Dale, dale, dale,
No pierdas el tino,
porque si lo pierdes,
pierdes el camino.

Ya le diste uno,
Ya le diste dos,
Ya le diste tres,
Y tu tiempo se acabo!Leslie Harrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12084393882026836564noreply@blogger.com
